In Ásbrú, only a few minutes' drive from Keflavík International Airport — ideal for early morning flights and midnight arrivals.
START Hostel occupies a building renovated in 2013, dating from the early years of the international airport and the former military base — an area now converted into a hub for education, innovation and development.
It is an excellent base for exploring the Reykjanes peninsula: Viking history at Víkingaheimar, geology at the Blue Lagoon, Krýsuvík hot springs and the Bridge Between Continents, bird and seal watching, golf courses and geothermal swimming pools, and the towns of Keflavík, Njarðvík and Sandgerði.
Drive along Reykjanesbraut (route 41) towards Reykjavík for about 9 km. At the roundabout, follow the sign for Ásbrú on the right along Grænásbraut until you see a sign for Háaleitisskóli on the right. Turn right onto Lindarbraut; the hostel is on the right — a white building with a blue roof (house no. 637). The main entrance and reception are around the corner, so turn right when you see the school building across the street.
Follow Reykjanesbraut (route 41) for about 47 km from Reykjavík, or about 13 km from the Blue Lagoon. At the roundabout, take the sign for Ásbrú on the left and continue along Grænásbraut until the sign for Háaleitisskóli on the right. Turn right onto Lindarbraut and look for the white building with the blue roof (house no. 637); reception is around the corner.
